I bought a couple yards of this beautiful green jersey fabric online for super cheap and I've been wanting to make myself a maxi dress because, no matter how much I look, I can never seem to find a dress that I like that is long enough for me. So here's what you need to make yourself a maxi dress like this one:
- 2 yards jersey knit fabric (mine stretched both ways) - Matching thread - Sewing supplies and machine - Ironing supplies - a maxi skirt or dress and tank top that both fit you well
First I folded my fabric in half lengthwise and laid my skirt and tank top on top of the fabric as a pattern. I had to lay on the pattern to make sure that it was long enough, then I pinned the skirt and top on to the fabric and cut out both sides of the dress at the same time.
Now, I decided that it would be best to hem the top of each of the two pieces before I sewed them together. I ironed the top of each and made small cuts all along the top of each side (see figure). Then I folded each piece in, ironed and pinned, then I sewed each side. I ended up folding it in once more and then sewed.
After that, I pinned the two sides together and sewed up each side. I also sewed the two sides of the straps together and hemmed the bottom of the dress. Then I was finished!
